Creative Therapy…Day 1

For some reason KCWC (Kids Clothes Week Challenge) always arrives at the worst time for me. Instead of letting it pass me by, I decided to embrace the chaos and utilize the challenge as creative therapy. Life has been trying at best lately, but I love to sew…and I really love to sew for my kids. For information on KCWC, click here.

On Sunday night, I traced some Modkid patterns. They come printed on thick paper, so I trace the size I need and then I can reuse it in a different size.

So, with my Sunday evening jump start, I spent my hour on Day One cutting out. Two Modkid Frida dresses, one in warm tones & one in cool tones.

Two cute ruffled tops by Lisette (0410) One in a cute owl print and the other in a mod bird print.

I also cut out another Lisette pattern (0409) in a kitschy print with red polka dot piping.

I actually had a few more things I wanted to cut out, but I think I need to start sewing. If I have time later, I want to cut out the Modkid Kyoko pattern.

A big thank you to my friend Jennifer, who inspired me to do this. Check out her KCWC progress at Creating Bits of Envy!

nesting

my goodness, it’s been forever since i’ve posted!  life has been so very busy lately.  school projects, oya no kai’s auction, running after frankie and getting ready for our baby!  i am almost 36 weeks and it’s hard to believe that our little one will be here in less than a month.

my dear friend jen came to visit me a few weeks ago & we settled in for 4 days of sewing, crafting and catching up.  jen is one of the most creative people i know…check out her projects, ideas and her latest office re-design at creating bits of envy.

we sifted through piles of patterns/fabric and decided to make some clothes to fit the new baby in the fall.  she also encouraged me to complete my unfinished projects.  months ago i started several outfits for frankie and never finished them!

first up, a modern cowl dress for f.  i found the downloadable heidi & finn pattern on etsy.  i made a matching headband out of fabric scraps & vintage buttons.  jen finished the red velvet jacket i had cut out for christmas…it looks perfect with the stripes!striped modern cowl dressstripes headbandred velvet bolerored velvet bolero / vintage button detail

next we worked on some outfits for the baby.  i made a reversible jacket/dress out of vintage knit, red flannel and handmade bias tape.  jen pieced together an adorable dress out of the smallest fabric scraps EVER, using a patty young modkid pattern.dress 1dress detail 1dress 2the maya dressruffle detailfabric detail

we completed several other projects…i will take pictures & post soon!

yoga for frankie

last week was really crazy for me and i missed out on the kcwc (kids clothes week challenge).  my friend jen (bits of envy) really went to town and made her daughter, violet, a lovely new fall wardrobe.  i decided that i could jump on board a week late!  i found some really fabulous pdf patterns on etsy by heidi & finn.  i started with the yoga pants / hooded jacket.  i had found a patty young polka dot remnant (flora & fauna) for $3 last year and i combined it with another patty young knit (sanctuary) i scored for 50% off at fabric depot. here is everything all cut out.

here is frankie in her new yoga outfit.

trying out a few poses…

also works great for the playground!
